World Moving and Storage

I moved from Christchurch to Wellington. I received 3 quotes from various companies and the initial attraction to World was both price and the fact they ‘prided themselves on service and hired their staff - not contracted’

I had a phone quote, like with the other companies, and advised I had a 3 bed house.

On the day of the move, all seemed to be going well, we fitted everything into a small truck. The quote was for 8 cubic metres and me being stupid automatically thought 8x8x8 (not 4x2x1) All other quotes mentioned 3 bed house.

The items were collected, the next day I’m driving to my new city, I receive an email (no phone call) with an invoice to say we picked up 20 cubic metres and here is your invoice which basically doubled my price.

I rang to dispute this (not the fact it was 20th of metres but that the initial quote was poorly done - and that it felt like I was under quoted just to get my business.

Little to no empathy shown, advised a manger would call - nothing. I then receive a reminder invoice 4 days later so I respond in writing to advise I wanted to speak with someone about the invoice. Nothing. I call and speak the with the manager who promises to call back as he has just arrived at the office. Nothing

I then receive a call stating where is my payment so they can deliver - so I guess they were holding back from giving my stuff to me due to non payment. Even though I had already paid $1800!

I ended up agreeing to pay an extra $1000 to get my items back.

And that was discounted!!!

I was disappointed that when I rattled off items over the phone like a bookcase - it was not asked or assumed I would also be moving the books that go in a bookcase. And that is just one example of many on how poorly I was quoted.

If I had known the true cost initially I would have gone with someone else.

And as for service? There was none of that - no call backs - I’m trying to chase them to work out the additional invoice whilst they hold my furniture to ransom. End result one month in my new place with no furniture!

I would not recommend this company under any circumstances. Why, well let me begin. When I got my initial quote for the job I was told the people who would be delivering my goods would put my slat beds back together, install my washing machine and make sure my TV was in the correct place. None of that happened, and when I phoned World Moving to ask why not I was told they don't do that, and when I mentioned I was told they do, I was told there was no proof of the conversation, end of subject. Very rude.

They took over 7 hours to pack up my small 3 bedroom home. When they were packing my 55in TV they both admitted they had never done it before and didn't know what they were doing.

OK, so now cut to 2 months later when I got my stuff delivered to me. World Moving didn't deliver my stuff, despite me paying them to do it, they got a local company to. When I started unpacking my stuff I started noticing broken item. A LOT of broken item, I will not list them here. Plus my TV screen had a large chip in the corner (so I guess the movers really didn't know how to pack a TV afterall). I have also noticed missing items. Things that are just not here.

When I contacted World Moving about the missing items I was told to provide proof they were missing, which of course is impossible!
